Essential medical follow-up

On the Happy Chandara campus in Cambodia, education goes hand in hand with children's health. Many young pupils have never seen a doctor, and they often suffer from malnutrition.

With 2,000 consultations carried out every year, the campus’ medical-social center is a key pillar. It handles the most frequent health issues throughout the year and ensures that every enrolled girl benefits from complete medical and dental follow-up, so she can grow and learn in good health.

Vaccination program

Vaccination is another key program, especially in a country where one in eight children dies before the age of five.

At the beginning of each school year, our pediatrician prepares a health booklet for every pupil before launching a vaccination campaign with the agreement of the local health authorities and parents. All girls are immunized against hepatitis B – a virus widely spread in Cambodia – as well as tetanus and poliomyelitis. Eye tests are also conducted.

Screening campaigns for all

The Happy Chandara medical-social center regularly conducts prevention and screening campaigns for high school students, their mothers and campus staff, in partnership with local hospitals and health organizations. These actions cover contraception, as well as breast and cervical cancer screening.

Comprehensive dental check-ups

Many kindergarten pupils, who have never seen a dentist before, often have severely damaged teeth. They receive a full dental check-up as soon as they arrive at the Happy Chandara campus.

To teach them good oral hygiene habits from an early age, we also provide them with toothbrushes. Our dental clinic offers daily care to our 1,700 pupils, as well as to their families and campus staff.

Happy Room in Cambodia providing psychological support for students on the Happy Chandara campus

A space for psychological support

The Happy Room on the Happy Chandara campus is a confidential space where students can meet psychologists and social workers. This dialogue space allows them to express their difficulties, find comfort and receive tailored psychological support. It is also a key place for detecting domestic violence experienced by children.

Healthy nutrition

Many little girls arrive at school showing signs of malnutrition, linked to an unbalanced diet and the presence of intestinal parasites. A collective deworming program is therefore implemented as soon as they arrive. Every day, the three school canteens on campus serve 2,000 balanced meals to pupils and staff, prepared by our cooks using organic fruits and vegetables grown in the campus’ agroecological farm. In addition, snacks distributed during morning and afternoon breaks also directly contribute to the children’s health and well-being.
