Recently, our 10th grade students traveled to the provinces of Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear.
Before exploring the temples, they attended a conference to better understand the historical and cultural context of the sites: three major locations listed as UNESCO World Heritage or recognized for their outstanding archaeological value.
- Koh Ker Temple, former capital of the Khmer Empire in the 10th century, known for its unique pyramid in Cambodia.
- Preah Vihear Temple, built over several centuries, which has been the subject of a historical dispute between Cambodia and Thailand.
- Sambor Prei Kuk, home to one of the oldest complexes of pre-Angkorian temples in the country.
The conference also addressed deforestation: its causes (such as the dry season conducive to fires), its consequences, and the related environmental issues.
They also took part in various activities: creating awareness panels for trees and visiting the ecological museum.
The group cooked together, set up tents, and shared a dinner under the stars.
This trip was a valuable experience, combining historical discovery, environmental awareness, and community life.
This trip took place before the start of border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.
