The following observation led to the creation of the «Toutes à l’école» project, which saw the light in December 2005: of all kids in school around the world barely one third are girls. Hundreds of millions of women still don’t have the know-how to defend themselves against arranged marriages, sordid crimes, prostitution...
The «Toutes à l’école» association has a mission to develop a high level of education for unprivileged young girls, and so help them become independent women and educated mothers. The Happy Chandara School currently teaches 645 young girls and will welcome a thousand pupils with the opening of classes for final year students.
A message from Tina Kieffer,
President & founder of « Toutes à l’école »
«Given that women are responsible for their children’s education, it is vital for them to be educated. They will then be able to transmit to future generations values such as peace, open mindedness and tolerance, the only way to fight against barbarism as well as obscurantism which cause millions of women and children throughout the world to suffer.
We send young girls to school as of the age of 6-7 and accompany them through school and further education until they find their first job. Some will become doctors, teachers, judges, business women... Others will pursue professional apprenticeships. We respect each individual’s competencies and we encourage them to maximize their personal development. This first pilot school will serve as a footprint for others and will help produce, in the years to come, female graduates who will help their country evolve both economically and politically.
The association «Toutes à l’école» has decided to prioritise girl’s education. Whilst we vigorously defend the basic right for everybody to have access to education, irrespective of their sex, there is an urgent need to re-address the imbalance which young girls suffer from and are victims of for the rest of their lives».
